BYRO
Fresh from support slots with some of Ireland’s most exciting emerging acts and building serious momentum of their own, BYRO are quickly establishing themselves as one of the most promising new names on the Irish indie circuit.
Ahead of their first Belfast headline show at Noise Nights 002, we caught up with the Midlands four-piece to talk influences, the Irish music scene, and what’s next for the band.
MEET THE BAND
BYRO are a four-piece alt-rock outfit from Ireland’s Midlands, made up of Tadgh (vocals), Alex (bass), Darragh (drums) and Matty (guitar).
While the band started out playing covers in local pubs, the ambition was always to create original music. After a handful of lineup changes, they committed fully to the project last September and began writing together.
The momentum came quickly. Within just two months, BYRO landed a support slot at Dublin’s Olympia Theatre - a milestone that gave the band confidence in what they can achieve together.
“It was just nuts. That was definitely a moment of realisation for us.”
That show remains the defining highlight of the band’s journey so far. Playing one of Ireland’s most iconic venues was a dream come true, but it’s also become the benchmark for where they want to go next.
“I suppose now, naturally, the goal for us is to get back there and headline it one day.”
THEIR SOUND
Pinning down BYRO’s sound isn’t straightforward – and that’s exactly how they like it.
Drawing influence from across decades and genres, the band describe their music as a melting pot of 90s guitar music, folk influences and contemporary indie rock, all tied together with soaring melodies and anthemic choruses.
“The best way to describe it is if you were to put 90s guitar music into a big cauldron and add a bit of folk and more contemporary stuff into the mix. Throw some anthemic chorus melodies on top of that and whatever that gets you is probably somewhat adjacent to our sound.”
It’s a combination that has helped BYRO carve out an identity of their own with every song built around leaving listeners with memorable moments.
THE SCENE
Like many of Ireland’s best emerging bands, BYRO are passionate supporters of the scene around them.
Fresh from a recent tour with Croíthe, the band speak fondly of both the music and the friendships they’ve built along the way.
“It was like the best craic of all time.”
They also recently shared stages with Esmeralda Road in Belfast and are quick to highlight fellow rising acts including Brooki, Avenue 68 and Grooveline.
“They’re all incredible bands to see live. If you haven’t gotten the chance yet, you should make it your business to.”
LIVE & UPCOMING
The months ahead look busy for BYRO.
Alongside a packed run of summer shows and some festival appearances, the band are currently writing and recording new material, with plenty more still to come before the year is out.
One track in particular has already become a fan favourite. Despite not yet being released, ‘19’ has become a standout moment in their live set.
“It seems to be the one people are waiting for the most and singing the loudest at shows.”
For us, though, the most exciting date on the horizon is BYRO’s upcoming headline appearance at Noise Nights 002 in Belfast on Friday 3rd July. Expect big choruses, infectious energy and the kind of songs that stay with you long after the final note.
“Expect to have some tunes stuck in your head after the show.”
OUR VERDICT
BYRO are one of the most exciting young bands emerging from the Irish indie scene right now.
With huge live energy, undeniable ambition and songs that continue to connect with audiences across the country, it’s easy to see why they’re gathering momentum so quickly.
That’s exactly why they felt like the perfect choice to headline Noise Nights 002 – and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them to Belfast for their first headline show in the city.
Tickets are available now, but with less than 2 weeks to go and limited availability remaining, we’d recommend securing yours sooner rather than later.
